Groundhog Day

I do not know where I had a desire freebies, but what it is - no doubt. Perhaps it is to some extent inherent in every sensible person. Someone wants her more, some less. But I will never believe that people have never experienced this desire - to get something by applying a minimum of effort, or not applying them at all. Tell me, who among you does not want to work was done by itself, and denyuzhku, meanwhile, is dripped into your pocket. If not all, then many come to mind such thoughts. The desire to get something just grew in my mind is not by chance, but because of the lack of this most freebies. Everything that I have achieved and attained in this life (before it happened to me all this fresh-water sponge), I had to gnaw with their teeth, paying achieved smelly sweat and bloody snot, working almost seven days a week for eleven or twelve hours a day for a ridiculous salary . I'm like a character from a fairly well-known book (can not remember which, I read a long time), who dreamed that someday he would go down the street and find their own happiness - a fat, full of large bills wallet. Purse I have not found, but fate has thrown me for free this wonderful gambit, I still can not get over it. My life was turned upside down ... Well, let's order, and there too we shall understand. Although I did not understand: I received the long-awaited free, or all that happened to me the purest profanity or delirium mentally ill. Anyway, judge you.  read more

Groundhog Day (BFI Film Classics)
amazon.co.uk
It is becoming clearer and clearer that Groundhog Day (1993), directed by Harold Ramis, is one of the masterpieces of 1990s Hollywood cinema. One of the first films to use a science-fiction premise as the basis for romantic comedy, it tells the story of a splenetic TV weatherman, Phil Connors (Bill Murray at his disreputable best), who finds himself repeating indefinitely one drab day in the milk-and-cookies town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. At first glance it seems like a feel-good parable in the tradition of Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life (1943). But on closer inspection it is a deeply ambivalent fable, with strong echoes of Samuel Beckett: before he finds redemption Phil must plumb the depths of suicidal despair - and even after he has survived this, the film offers no guarantees that he will live happily ever after. Ryan Gilbey begins his account of Groundhog Day with the long and unlucky gestation of the script by Danny Rubin (who was interviewed specially for this book) which formed the basis of the finished film. Gilbey celebrates the inspired casting of Murray, alongside Andie MacDowell and less well-known actors such as Stephen Tobolowsky (who plays the reptilian sa  read more

Groundhog Day [Blu-ray] [1993]
amazon.co.uk
Bill Murray does warmth in his most consistently effective post-Stripes comedy, a romantic fantasy about a wacky weatherman forced to relive one strange day over and over again, until he gets it right. Snowed in during a road-trip expedition to watch the famous groundhog encounter his shadow, Murray falls into a time warp that is never explained but pays off so richly that it doesn't need to be. The elaborate loop-the-loop plot structure cooked up by screenwriter Danny Rubin is crystal-clear every step of the way, but it's Murray's world-class reactive timing that makes the jokes explode, and we end up looking forward to each new variation. He squeezes all the available juice out of every scene. Without forcing the issue, he makes us understand why this fly-away personality responds so intensely to the radiant sanity of the TV producer played by Andie MacDowell. The blissfully clueless Chris Elliott (Cabin Boy) is Murray's nudnik cameraman. --David Chute  read more
