He is a twelve-year-old outsider; bullied at school, dreaming about his absentee father, bored with life on a dreary housing estate. One evening he meets a mysterious girl. As friendship blossoms between them, he discovers her dark secret - she is a 200-year-old vampire, forever frozen in childhood and condemned to live on a diet of fresh blood. The inspiration behind the major feature film, Let the Right One In is a disturbing and brilliant reworking of the vampire legend, and a deeply moving fable about rejection, friendship and loyalty.  read more

Let the Right One In (Devil's Advocates)

Vampires have never been so popular. Amid the glut (Twilight, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Blade and Underworld movies) it takes a very special vampire movie to stand out. Like Twilight, the Swedish film Let the Right One In is a love story between a human and a vampire but there the resemblance ends. Let the Right One In is not a romantic fantasy but combines the supernatural with social realism. Set on a housing estate in the suburbs of Stockholm in the early 1980s, it s the story of Oskar, a lonely, bullied child, who makes friends with Eli, the girl in the next apartment. 'Oskar, I'm not a girl,' she tells him and she's not kidding. They forge a relationship which is oddly innocent yet disturbing, two outsiders against the rest of the world. But one of these outsiders is, effectively, a serial killer. What does Eli want from Oskar? While Let the Right One In is startlingly original, it nevertheless couldn't have existed without the near century of vampire cinema that preceded it. Acclaimed film critic and horror novelist Anne Billson looks at how it has drawn from, and wrung new twists on, such classics as Nosferatu (1922), how vampire cinema has already flirted with social realism in films like Martin (1977) and Near Dark (1987) and how vampire mythology adapts itself to the modern world.  read more

She was surprised to find out that the man she used to work for was now divorced but even more so that he was showing signs of interest in her.Having just survived one disaster of love she is frightened by her feelings toward this older man. She wants him as much as he wants her and she has to decide if he will be the one. This is an explicit erotic short story of approximately 5,000 words. It contains graphic language and sexual themes. It is meant only for adults who are interested in this type of material for viewing in jurisdictions where its sale and enjoyment does not violate any local laws.Excerpt:The hands removed, she turned quickly to see Mr. Peterson standing just inches away from her, dressed for work, he was as handsome as ever and his dark eyes were full of mirth and he smiled at her, I'm so sorry, I thought you heard me come in, I didn't mean to scare you.No, that's OK, how are you? her heart was still palpitating but now she wasn't sure if it was from the surprise or the fact that he was so close."Well, I'm better, now that you're here, he still hadn't backed away and she could see the muscles clearly delineated in his arms through the shirt and his chest and Sarah soon realized that she was definitely checking him out and she blushed and looked away.  read more

Let the Right One in [DVD]

The enduring popularity of the vampire myth rests, in part, on sexual magnetism. In Let the Right One In, Tomas Alfredson's carefully controlled, yet sympathetic take on John Ajvide Lindqvist's Swedish bestseller-turned-screenplay, the protagonists are pre-teens, unlike the fully-formed night crawlers of HBOs True Blood or Catherine Hardwickes Twilight (both also based on popular novels). Instead, 12-year-old Oskar (future heartbreaker Kre Hedebrant) and Eli (Lina Leandersson) enter into a deadly form of puppy love. The product of divorce, Oskar lives with his harried mother, while his new neighbor resides with a mystery man named Hkan (Per Ragnar), who takes care of her unique dietary needs. From the wintery moment in 1982 that the lonely, towheaded boy spots the strange, dark-haired girl skulking around their outer-Stockholm tenement, he senses a kindred spirit. They bond, innocently enough, over a Rubik's Cube, but little does Oskar realise that Eli has been 12 for a very long time. Meanwhile, at school, bullies torment the pale and morbid student mercilessly. Through his friendship with Eli, Oskar doesn't just learn how to defend himself, but to become a sort of predator himself, begging the question as to whether Eli really exists or whether she represents a manifestation of his pent-up anger and resentment. Naturally, the international success of Lindqvist's fifth feature, like Norway's chilling Insomnia before it, has inspired an American remake, which is sure to boast superior special effects, but can't possibly capture the delicate balance he strikes here between the tender and the terrible. --Kathleen C. Fennessy  read more

A fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boys wish for a friend seems to comes true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him. But Elis arrival coincides with a series of gruesome deaths and attacks. Though Oskar realizes that she's a vampire, his friendship with her is stronger than his fear. Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a disturbing, darkly atmospheric, yet unexpectedly tender tableau of adolescence. The feature is based on the best-selling novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist.  read more
